    Paratus Announces the Construction of its Largest Teleport in South Africa

    • 6 March 2023

    [ACCI-CAVIE] Paratus, a Namibian-based digital infrastructure company committed to transforming Africa through exceptional digital infrastructure and customer service, has announced the construction of its largest satellite teleport facility in Doornkloof, Pretoria. The teleport facility is expected to be completed in August 2023.

    For Paratus, the teleport indicates the company’s landmark in advancing investments and infrastructural growth, providing high-performance satellite connectivity to South African businesses and organisations. In addition, the teleport will supply end users and providers with the needed services despite power outages and facilitate various satellite connectivity services to all its customers and business for accelerated economic growth.

    The teleport’s key features include:

    1. Dual redundant systems on all network infrastructure, from generators and backhaul to hosted environments;

    2. The Paratus backbone network allows connectivity to and from multiple countries via terrestrial and subsea fibre routes;

    3. Dual redundant fibre routes to two independent data centres in South Africa;

    4. Dual power feeds, including dual UPS and multiple generators; and

    5. End-to-end management by Paratus South Africa.

    “The project is important to our country and our group. It is built to conform to international standards and will be the group’s largest satellite infrastructure project to date and capable of hosting other providers’ and customers’ equipment, such as antennas and satellite hubs,” said the Managing Direct of Paratus South Africa, Kallie Carlsen. “The development of the teleport aligns closely with the group’s overall vision to transform Africa through exceptional infrastructure and service. Our investment in the new teleport comes at a critical time because not only will we be able to ensure the highest quality connectivity, but we will also be able to provide even more services to customers who require a reliable connectivity solution, including during load-shedding.”

    Furthermore, the company stated the importance of satellite infrastructure as a primary tool for advancing connectivity and ensuring that South African businesses that rely on real-time transactional data can operate seamlessly.

    “This teleport is a major investment for the group; it makes our offering in the region unequalled and confirms our strength for providing high-quality and seamless connectivity”, Schalk Erasmus, Paratus Group CEO added.
